Georgia Pacific Corporation's Wauna Paper Mill, about ten miles east of Clatskanie, is the area's largest employer. The second largest employer is the Columbia 6-J School District. Together with Stimson Lumber Mill, Fibre Farm, and PGE's Beaver Turbine Generation Plant, and the logging and farming that take place in the rural areas around Clatskanie, combine to form Clatskanie's principal industries.

There are also many cottage industries in the area.
