Lunch Buddies: Lunch buddies are people who commit to having lunch once a week on a set schedule with an elementary school student. The students are identified by the counselors and their teacher first and the adult lunch buddy has lunch with and gets to know the same child each month. This gives the child a positive adult role model that they can interact and identify with. Parents are aware of their child being in the program and have given permission. Recreation Center: The Clatskanie Recreation Center has hours from the end of the school day until 7:30 pm Monday through Friday. Adults are often needed in the earlier hours when there are several elementary age children in attendance. No special talents are required. Just the willingness to hang out with a few kids. This allows them to be more spread out in their activities and remain supervised in a safe environment. For example there might be a few who would like to shoot some baskets in the gym while others are playing games in the rec building. Our center manager can't be in both places and will welcome your help. It is best if a volunteer will commit to a certain schedule. How 'bout one afternoon a week? The volunteer helps them set their goals, and establish a plan for achieving them. Training for the mentor is available. Depending on the grade level of the student you might meet with them weekly or less often. Adult Mentors: Adult mentors are people who are willing to devote a small amount of time on a regular schedule to being with one student. Training is available. Be a role model and friend to one student. Summer Rec. Center Helpers: The Recreation Center will once again be offering an 8 week program of activities.
