Hunger is an ever increasing fact of life throughout Oregon. For low-income families, housing costs consume 50-70% of the family budget. HUD characterizes "affordable housing" as that which costs no more than 30% of a family budget. Research shows that even moderate malnutrition can impair cognitive development for a lifetime. Parents often go hungry so their children may eat. This puts them at greater risk of illness and increases their chances of an on the job injury. Over 70% of our adult clients are working at low paying jobs. |

Our NEW Building: |
Turning Point is raising money to buy land to build a new facility. The new
facility will allow us to expand our Thriftshop and provide room for storage.
It will also help us to provide the community with additional services.
Turning Point will need to raise $200,000 on it's own towards the total cost of the project. Donations are appreciated |

Food Stamp applications are now availabe at Turning Point. Thanks to a new working agreement with the
food stamp office we can expedite the process for you to receive food stamps
and reduce the number of trips you need to make to St. Helens to complete the
application process. We will have guidelines availabe soon, also, so we will
be able to estimate what you will receive to help you decide if the trip is
worth the gas for you and your family. Come in and talk to Sandy to learn
all about it. |
We are currently taking applications for Christmas Dinner baskets. Applications
can be picked up at our office and must be turned in by Dec 15. |
