"For many, quilting is a pasttime.... for us it's a commitment! TQ is a smoke-free environment and is quilt-friendly. We treat your quilttop as if it were our own" |
Made in the USA |
Quilting is an age-old sewing method whereby small, regularly spaced stitches are
worked in decorative patterns to secure a layer of batting between two layers
of cloth. The batting provides warmth and stability to the quilt, with the stitches holding the fabric "sandwich" together in order to prevent the batting from sagging and moving. Many quilting purists consider machine quilting too non-traditional, but it actually has a long and well-established history. For instance, a Scientific American, dated March 18, 1892 contains an advertisement for a sewing machine attachment made specifically for quilting. Additionally, the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC has in its collections a beautiful crib quilt that was pieced by sewing machine in 1879 by Mr. Stewart Granger of Worchester, MA. Such items offer evidence that machine piecing and quilting is more than 100 years old - enough time in most peoples opinions to make it a solid tradition.
